Sophie Katz Novels – Kyra Davis

I have always been in love with Sophie Katz series by Kyra Davis. They are witty (just like the novels’ titles), funny all the way and I love a good chick fiction (part romantic comedy and part mystery). She came out with the 4th book in her series after a long period of absence. The series is about Sophie Katz, a mystery writer who always ends up with her head in a murder case and a confused relationship with P.I. Anatoly Darinsky.

In her latest book, Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss, Sophie Katz is head over heels in love with a three-bedroom Victorian house. She knows she got to have it despite a few drawbacks, such as a slimy and arrogant ex as the Realtor. The weirdest drawback of all is that the rich and creepy seller wants her to join Specter Society (a spirit-believer group) and to trial-live at the house. There is no way Sophie is going to give up her dream house to the “ghost” even when things officially started getting weird. A Society member was found dead; lights were turning themselves on and off, and hearing footsteps when there were no one else in the house. To top it off, Anatoly thinks she’s imagining it all. Sophie did not give in and goes about her way to solve the mystery.

It is a great chick fiction to pass time and it keeps you on your toes. I also love the illustration on its book jacket by Aimee Levy (on all 4 novels). Though there has been some changes with her publisher; book 1 to 3 was published by Red Dress Ink (my favorite publisher) but book 4 was published by Mira Books.

The other 3 novels in her series were:

Sex, Murder and a Double Latte was her first novel. As you already know, Sophie Katz has an overactive imagination writing mystery novels and they were about to come to life. Though she is divorced and living alone, she is not imagining things. There is really a crazy reader on the loose sneaking into her apartment to re-enact scenes from her books, but no one believed her.

When a filmmaker friend got murdered in the same manner of a death scene in one of his movies, Sophie becomes convinced that a copycat killer is on the loose and that she’s the next target. If she doesn’t solve the mystery soon, she will be doomed. Sophie got involved and Anatoly swooped in to save her and along the way became her new love interest.

While in Kyra Davis’s 2nd novel, Sophie Katz falls head over heels into another murder case and this time, it involves her sister and brother-in-law… being that the dead man is her brother-in-law… yikes! Her sister also happens to be the prime suspect! Double yikes! With or without Anatoly’s help, Sophie is going to dig around to find the real killer. Being that the police were no help, she stirs up trouble to lure the killer out, of course. But if her crazy plan does work, will Anatoly be there to help her get out of this mess or it’ll make it worse? Read the exciting book to find out!

In the 3rd novel, Sophie Katz’s relationship with P.I. Anatoly is on the fritz when a friend recruits Sophie’s “investigation skills” to decode her husband’s strange and abnormal behavior. When Sophie shows up in a sexy short cocktail dress to lure and seduce her friend’s husband, he winds up dead. Being the troublesome Sophie she is, she has to jump into this murder case plunging herself into the crazy world of campaign and dirt-digging. Being in so much trouble, she had to drag her “ex”… Anatoly into this mess and in the process can’t resist falling for each other…again.

These sound really good! I’m gonna read them. Undecided relationships like that kind of bother me, though.

I think it will take a good yr or so before she will publish a new book. I had waited for a really long time for Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss, to come out. I haven’t got my hands on a copy of Vows, Vendettas & A Little Black Dress yet.

I am also not a huge fan of the book jacket design for Vows, Vendettas & A Little Black Dress. I prefer the design on the past books.

The book jacket is not that great, but the book is great! I do agree, however, that the book jackets on the past books are fabulous…totally superior to Vows, Vendettas & A Little Black Dress.

Thank you all again for supporting Sophie through the years. I hope to have another Sophie mystery out by summer. Although I’m currently writing a trilogy of novellas for Simon & Schuster (the first in that series was just released this week) the Sophie books are now self-published (starting with Vanity, Vengeance & A weekend In Vegas). The cover of that book was done on a volunteer basis by a reader. I’m thinking of starting a kickstarter campaign so I can hire a graphic artist and package the whole thing a bit more professionally next time around but that’s at least a month away.

And again, I’m so thrilled that you’ve all be enjoying the series!
